About Us

Founded in 1894 in Marseille, the Savonnerie du Midi is one of the city's last historical soap factories preserving traditional Marseille soap-making methods. Located in the Aygalades district, the factory was moved there post-World War II and continues to produce soap using the classic cauldron method, with about 300 tonnes made monthly—80% of which is exported.

Acquired by the PRODEF family business in 2013, which has been active in hygiene and cleaning products since 1924, the Savonnerie du Midi benefits from PRODEF's commitment to ecological and organic products. The factory has undergone significant renovations to modernize its facilities and is recognized as an Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) for its craftsmanship.

The Savonnerie du Midi is also engaged in local development through the PaQte program and recently revamped its site with support from regional and state funds. Its museum received the QUALITE TOURISME label for its high standards.

 

Product Description

Black soap paste with linseed oil is a versatile natural product that can replace many industrial cleaners for a more eco-friendly approach to home maintenance.

This concentrated paste formula is not only cost-effective but also highly efficient at removing stubborn stains and cleaning DIY tools. Made with linseed oil soap, the gentle black soap is free from solvents and dyes.

Ingredients

Aqua, mixed fatty acids, potassium salt, linseed oil potassium and sodium salt, potassium carbonate, sodium carbonate, glycerin, potassium hydroxide, unsaponified linseed oil

 

Caution

POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE. Causes skin irritation. Causes severe eye damage. In case of medical advice, keep container or label at hand. Keep out of reach of children. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. Wear protective gloves and eye protection. IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses if present and easy to remove. Continue rinsing. Call a POISON CENTER or doctor immediately.

 

How to use

  • For regular maintenance: dilute one tablespoon in 3 liters of hot water. No need to rinse.
  • For stubborn stains: apply a dab of soap paste to a damp sponge, rub and rinse.
  • To reduce the impact on the environment, respect the recommended doses.
  • To clean and degrease the various washable surfaces of the house (work surface, sink, hood...): dilute 1 tablespoon in 3L of hot water. Do not rinse.
  • For floor cleaning: dilute 2 to 3 tablespoons of black soap in 3L of hot water. No need to rinse.
  • For the care of silverware or tools: dilute three to four tablespoons of black soap in lukewarm water in a basin and soak your objects for five minutes. Finish by wiping with a soft cloth.
  • For stain-removing laundry: place a dab of black soap on the stain, rub lightly and leave for a few minutes before putting your laundry in the washing machine. Black soap with olive oil is very concentrated and can slightly tint the laundry, especially if it is light-coloured. We recommend that you test a small area of the laundry.
  • For machine washing: put 3 tablespoons of black soap per 5 kg of laundry in your washing machine. To avoid clogging your machine and instead of industrial fabric softeners, add 10 cl of white vinegar.
  • For your pet: wet your pet's hair or coat with warm water. Put a tablespoon of black soap on the coat, massage as if you were shampooing. Rinse thoroughly with clear, warm water. Finally, wipe your pet with a soft towel.
