About Us
Founded in 1894 in Marseille, the Savonnerie du Midi is one of the city's last historical soap factories preserving traditional Marseille soap-making methods. Located in the Aygalades district, the factory was moved there post-World War II and continues to produce soap using the classic cauldron method, with about 300 tonnes made monthly—80% of which is exported.
Acquired by the PRODEF family business in 2013, which has been active in hygiene and cleaning products since 1924, the Savonnerie du Midi benefits from PRODEF's commitment to ecological and organic products. The factory has undergone significant renovations to modernize its facilities and is recognized as an Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) for its craftsmanship.
The Savonnerie du Midi is also engaged in local development through the PaQte program and recently revamped its site with support from regional and state funds. Its museum received the QUALITE TOURISME label for its high standards.
Product Description
Our Extra Pure Marseille Soap is made in Marseille using the traditional cooking process.
It is 100% of natural origin, based exclusively on vegetable oils, without coloring agents, perfumes or preservatives. The color of the soap can vary from white to dark beige depending on the production batches because of the vegetable oils used from one cauldron to another. This gives our soaps the authenticity of a product made from natural materials and does not alter the quality of the finished product.
