About Us

Founded in 1894 in Marseille, the Savonnerie du Midi is one of the city's last historical soap factories preserving traditional Marseille soap-making methods. Located in the Aygalades district, the factory was moved there post-World War II and continues to produce soap using the classic cauldron method, with about 300 tonnes made monthly—80% of which is exported.

Acquired by the PRODEF family business in 2013, which has been active in hygiene and cleaning products since 1924, the Savonnerie du Midi benefits from PRODEF's commitment to ecological and organic products. The factory has undergone significant renovations to modernize its facilities and is recognized as an Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) for its craftsmanship.

The Savonnerie du Midi is also engaged in local development through the PaQte program and recently revamped its site with support from regional and state funds. Its museum received the QUALITE TOURISME label for its high standards.

Its concentrated formula effectively tackles stains and grease on various household surfaces, laundry, and in gardening. The convenient tube format ensures ease of use, and the product is certified free of solvents and dyes.

Made from olive pomace oil, this traditional ecological cleaner is highly effective in degreasing and stain removal. When used undiluted, it serves as a powerful stain remover for fabrics. When diluted, it can clean floors, dishes, and greasy surfaces like ovens and hoods. With 99% of its ingredients derived from natural sources, it contains no solvents or colorants.

 

Ingredients

Aqua, potassium olivate, potassium cocoate, potassium oleate, parfum, tetrasodium gluamate diacetate, potassium hydroxide, citral, limonene, linalool.

 

Composition

15-30% SAVON, <5%: parfum. Contient aussi: Eau, Séquestrant, Citral, Limonene, Linalool.

 

Caution

Causes skin irritation. Causes severe eye irritation.

Keep out of reach of children. In case of medical advice, keep container or label at hand. Wear eye/face protection. IF IN EYES: rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses if present and easy to remove. Continue rinsing. If eye irritation persists: consult a physician.

 

How to use

  • To clean and degrease the various washable surfaces in the house (worktop, washbasin, hood, etc.): apply a small amount of product to the surface to be cleaned and rub with a sponge or small damp brush. Rinse with water

  • For floor cleaning: dilute a large amount of black soap in 1L of hot water. No need to rinse.

  • For the maintenance of silverware or tools: In a basin, dilute three to four tablespoons of black soap in warm water and leave your objects to soak for five minutes. Finish by wiping with a soft cloth.

  • For stain-removing laundry: place a dab of black soap on the stain, rub lightly and leave for a few minutes before putting your laundry in the washing machine. Black soap with olive oil is very concentrated and can slightly tint the laundry, especially if it is light-coloured. We recommend that you test a small area of the laundry.

  • For your pet: wet your pet's hair or coat with warm water. Put a large dab of black soap on the coat, massage as if you were shampooing. Rinse thoroughly with clear, warm water. Finally, wipe your pet with a soft towel.
